Terms of Sale

Last updated: 28 September 2026

These terms explain how a reservation and sale works when you buy a bird from Grey Haven Aviary. They apply alongside, and do not override, any wildlife licensing or CITES/Article 10 requirements that apply in your country.

1. Enquiries and video calls

Every sale starts with a written enquiry. Before any deposit or payment is requested, we hold a live video call (FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom) so you can see the specific bird, its closed leg ring, and its paperwork. We do not accept deposits or payments before this call has taken place.

2. Domestic sales only

Each bird is sold only to a buyer resident in the same country as the aviary where that bird is located, because moving a CITES Appendix I bird across an international border requires government export/import permits that a private sale cannot substitute for. We are not able to make exceptions to this.

3. Reservation and deposit

If we agree to proceed after your video call, we send a written reservation agreement. A deposit, shown on the bird’s listing (typically 10–20% of the price), secures the bird and is payable only once that agreement is signed. Deposits reserve a specific bird and are non-refundable if you change your mind after the reservation is confirmed, except where required by law.

4. Balance, handover and delivery

The remaining balance, and any delivery fee, is due at handover — either when you collect the bird from the aviary, or when it is delivered locally by our own staff or by a local delivery partner we have named to you in writing in advance. We do not use airlines or long-distance cargo shipping, and we never add fees once a bird is in transit.

5. What is included at handover

Every bird is handed over with its closed leg ring, DNA sexing certificate, avian vet check record, and (for UK-located birds) its Article 10 certificate. Compare the ring number on any certificate against the bird’s actual leg ring before you complete the sale.

6. Bird health and condition

Each bird is examined by an avian vet before sale, and the date of that exam is shown on its listing. We are not able to offer refunds for buyer’s remorse once a bird has gone to its new home, but we take welfare concerns seriously and ask that you contact us immediately if a health issue is noticed shortly after handover.

7. Waiting lists

If a bird becomes unavailable (sold or reserved by another buyer) before your enquiry is completed, we will offer to add you to the waiting list for a future clutch rather than substitute a different bird without your agreement.

8. Age and legal capacity

Reservations may only be made by adults with legal capacity to enter into a contract in their jurisdiction.

9. Governing terms

Nothing in these terms overrides local wildlife trade law, CITES obligations, or the terms of any licence held by our aviaries. Where there is a conflict, the legal requirement takes precedence.
